Notes | Despite human progress over the years, including the moon landings, the speaker of this poem reflects on the inherent, prehistoric, brutality of the human race. The poem contains many striking images of torture and suffering, inflicted upon humans, by humans. The propensity of humans to inflict suffering is undoubted, and does not discriminate: violence can affect all. Despite our technological progress and scientific exploits in the 'Ré Niamhrach' - 'The Shining Age', human violence has changed little. |
