Notes This poem was initially published as the first two sections of the poem, 'Lá an Scriosta' in Comhar, 1961. The poem expresses a fear of the apocalypse, and most likely refers to the Cold War nuclear situation. It may have been inspired by the 1961 Goldsboro B-52 crash, during which a nuclear payload was dropped, almost detonating, after its carrier plane broke up in mid-air. The speaker of the poem describes the tiredness and fear felt in the face of potential annihilation. Who can possibly put a stop to the devastation?
