Notes	This poem focuses on the Easter Rising of 1916, but also addresses world history more widely and in a mythological context through the reference to the burning of Troy. English imperialism is a theme: there are explicit references to the Boer War, the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and the Siege of Cawnpore, and the use of gas in warfare.
