Paratext Text Príosún de la Santé i bPáras (do Brian Ellis)
Notes This is a short lyric poem about the infamous 'Santé' prison, located in central Paris. The prison is one of the most notorious in the country. The speaker of the poem describes the dolorous and miserable conditions of the prison, with the prisoners packed inside like sardines, and he seems to lean on the humanity of the prisoners inside the walls. The desire to be free is expressed fervently in the final verse of the poem, where the prisoners' excrement is the only part of them that is free - as it is taken from the prison sewerage system and expelled into the ocean.
