Paratext Text Ard Mhacha, 1991
Notes This poem describes the killing of an Iraqi boy, Adhmed Kassim, as part of the coalition forces assault on Iraq during the Gulf War, 1991. The forces bombed the city of al-Nasiriyeh, destroying bridges, and killing the people who were trying to flee the devastation. The story of Kassim is interwoven with the story of Jesus and the loaves and fishes. The coalition forces against Iraq are personified as the black crows in the sky. The body of the boy is compared to that of the crucified Christ - with a crown of shrapnel and a wound in his side.
