Paratext Text ó Iodáilis Salvatore Quasimodo
Notes The title reads 'The Year of Our Lord, 1947'. Written in the wake of World War II, the speaker of the poem addresses 'you' as the one who has been banging war drums, destroying cities, and leaving ruins and human suffering everywhere. Now that the war has finished, and the weapons of warfare have been hidden in the magnolia, the speaker wishes for a moment of peace with his partner, without the fear of curfews, bombs, and the devastation of war.
