Notes	In this poem, the speaker of the poem talks about many aspects of 20th Century warfare: Germans and their allies in World War II, Jewish genocide during WWII in the Holocaust, gas attacks during WWI in the Somme, Islamic girls being covered up after their period, generational international warfare in the United states affecting poorer families, Kuwaiti democracy, French foreign legion and their old empire of Algeria and Indochina, and Iraqi soldiers during the Gulf War. The speaker of the poem asks us what certain words, such as 'gas', 'relief', and 'victory' mean to these various factions. Such is the devastation of wars that many of these words are now meaningless - what, for instance, does 'relief' mean to the beleaguered Kuwaiti after the Gulf War?
