| Paratext Text | HMG: Heavy Machine Gun |
| Notes | The speaker of the poem describes the training or 'inoculation' for peacekeeping troops - being packed into a trench, left upon the 'no-man's-land' of a battlefield, and pounded with artillery, strafe from jets, and rounds of ammunition from heavy machine guns. This fierce bombardment, supposedly training, is to prepare them for the 'real thing' that they may encounter in the future. |
