Notes | The speaker of the poem describes dispensing aid and supplies to a 'forgotten' village that has been affected by war. The speaker encounters some children, who come toward them, begging, yet nervous of the Irish peacekeeping soldiers. They give the children chocolate, and the speaker is sentimentally reminded of their smiles to this day. The speaker describes their nervousness, although he states that they had nothing to fear of Irish peacekeeping soldiers. He acknowledges though, that they are 'weary' of seeing soldiers. |
