Notes Title refers to a saying in Madrid: 'from Madrid to Heaven'. This title is ironic as the poem refers to the hellish scenes in Madrid after the train bombings of 2004, in response to Spain's support for the US-led invasion of Iraq. Reference is also made to the wrongful blaming of the ETA (Basque militants) for the attacks, as well as mass demonstrations demanding the government "tell the truth". 'Acheron', mentioned in the poem, is a classical reference to one of the rivers of the dead. Like other poems by Bernadette Nic an tSaoir in this dataset, there is an explicit allusion to the rights of children being violated in times of violence.
