Paratext Text 'Nóta: Tugadh Sonderkommando ar ghrúpa de phríosúnaithe Giúdacha a d'oibrigh sna sluachampaí géibhinn le linn an Dara Chogadh Domhanda. B'éigean dóibh déileáil le coirp a gcomrádaithe a maraíodh sna seomraí gáis.'
Notes The poem details (with its substantial paratextual note) the killing of Jewish people in the Nazi concentration camps, as well as the forced complicity of the other Jewish prisoners in clearing up their bodies - the Sonderkommando. The metaphor of the autumn leaves being akin to the colours of the hair of the prisoners describes the brutality and cruelty of the camps, as the Sonderkommando are forced to rake up the 'leaves' and 'burn them' at the end of the poem.
