Notes This poem, 'In the Marches', explores the area of Jasenovac, in which an infamous Ustaše concentration camp existed during World War II. In this section, the speaker of the poem explores the old village of Jasenovac itself, finding old propaganda from the Ustaše regime and from the Chetnik guerrilla fighters of World War II, and ruined, dilapidated buildings. Surprisingly for the speaker, in the midst of these historical ruins, the storks return to their own breeding grounds in Jasenovac - more loyal than any irredentist, according to the speaker.
