Paratext Text | Remembering Jadovno & Jasenovac Croatia 17-20 June 2015 |
Notes | This poem, 'In the Marches', explores the area of Jasenovac, in which an infamous Ustaše concentration camp existed during World War II. In this section, the speaker of the poem explores the site of the Jasenovac concentration camp itself. The site is surrounded by broadleaf trees, described as witnesses to the past, which are rustled by 'ghost-breezes'. The paratext notes also the Jadovno concentration camp, the first such camp established in Croatia during World War II. |
