| Notes | This is second section of the 'Leoithne ón Murascaill' sequence of poems. The speaker of the poem describes the immediate reaction to 9/11 in his work environment. As they discuss the fallout, a JCB driver, described as ultra-masculine, barges in and insults the Muslim religion and people as a whole, using a racial slur to describe them. The speaker of the poem is instantly reminded of how Mountjoy, Lord Deputy of Ireland during the Elizabethan Age, labelled all Irish as 'little better than devils...' |
