| Notes | The speaker of the poem describes the poverty and richness of his childhood. The deprivation of his childhood is noted in the lack of electricity, paved roads, and internet connection, but also the valuable connections he had with others. He wished to be a historian for his community and place, who wished to write the history of the 'cloth we used to wipe out muddy shoes before getting the train'. This implies the class differences in the speaker's homeland, and the relative deprivation in which he lived as a child. |
