Notes | The speaker of the poem describes her sense of dislocation and remove from her her home country, Pakistan, as well as racist and xenophobic incidents that have happened since she came to Ireland. She expresses frank gratitude to her friends and to the people who are kind to her, but acknowledges that she is 'too grateful' for behaviour that should be normal in society. She describes her home in Pakistan in poetic terms, mentioning locations, gods, rivers, mythology, and different aspects of the culture which she dearly misses. |
