Notes | The speaker of the poem fondly remembers aspects of her homeland and the life she had there - a rural, pastoral life which revolved around agriculture and harvest. The memories of her home-place give her solace in the 'foreign land' in which she now lives, although when she herself is gone, what got left behind her in her homeland will only 'amount to a handful of cinders'. |
