Paratext Text 6 December 1917
Notes Another poem focusing on the treaty of Locarno after the First World War, but dated for 6 December 1917, the aftermath of the Russian Revolution. While there's no explicit reference to Finland, a number of the poem's lines reiterate the imagery and phrasing of "Trotsky in Finland" (including the "Swiss" seeming snowy landscapes), and the poem's date is also the date when Finland declared it's independence from Russia, benefiting from the aftermath of the communist revolution - Paulin would have been well aware of this. Furthermore, the date also marks the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty. Also Jewish history acknowledged, including in repeated references to Joyce's Ulysses.
