Notes | The poem was first published in Bardwell's collection The Noise of Masonry Settling (Dedalus Press, 2006). It responds to the US invasion of Iraq that began in 2003 and the invisible war waged against it. The third stanza explicitly addresses the notion of justice and the complicity of the West in the barbarity that took place in the Middle East. |
