Notes | The poem was published in Bardwell's collection The Noise of Masonry Settling (Dedalus Press, 2006) and is set -as the title suggests- in the out-patients of St.Mary's Hospital in London. The speaker reminisces about the time she met there a woman from London who was drunk and in poor health. This woman talked of Jesus and his sufferings on the cross while complaining about the price of prescription medicine, social security, and lawyers. |
