Notes | This poem references the beginning of the Invasion of Iraq by America and coalition forces, which began on the 20th of March, 2003, 3 days after the St. Patrick's Day mentioned in the title of this poem. There are mentions of explosives, war planes, and ships; the force amassed by the coalition is akin to a dragon, 'ready for slaughter'. The speaker of the poem addresses the coalition leaders bitterly at the end of poem, telling them to let the hounds off the leash. |
