Paratext Text Iúil 2006
Notes From the speaker's barn in Ireland, she hears a hawk killing the doves mercilessly. This is a comparison to the 2006 Lebanon War, sparked off in July 2006 by the abduction of IDF soldiers by Hezbollah forces. About 1,300 Lebanese people were killed, and over 1,000,000 displaced, while 165 Israelis were killed about about 300,000 displaced. In this poem, the speaker compares the war to the hawk hunting the doves - and she states that there is no point in appealing to the hawk's sense of mercy - as it doesn't have one. This is likely in reference to Israel's use of indiscriminate air strikes on civilian targets during the conflict.
