Notes | The speaker of the poem reflects on the struggle of refugees and their separation from their previous lives. Here the refugee man, who fled his home country due to political strife, has learned about his brother's funeral days after it has happened - and even if he had known about it, he probably couldn't have gone home. She compares the experience of the refugee man's isolation with her own comfortable life, surrounded by familiar faces and family. |
