Notes The poem describes the reality of poverty and deprivation in Zambia. In the poem, the speaker describes a woman breaking rocks as akin to a druidess, changing the rocks beside her into gold. The second verse shows her reality, however: she's breaking large rocks into smaller ones to sell at the market, so as to save her family from starvation for another month.
