Notes This poem describes a scene involving two immigrants fighting on the street in Ireland, a scene carefully avoided by the crowds, who are grateful that they cannot understand what is being shouted by the black woman. Their is a reference to the Minister (presumably of Foreign Affairs) and his misguided orthodoxy, again presumably regarding immigration laws. The international context can only be inferred but the precarity of the immigrants' existence in the host country is made explicit in the poem.
