Notes The speaker of this rhyming poem describes the 'War Scientists' who present war as necessary and inevitable, as a 'cure' for the world's ills. The speaker gives the Gulf War as an example, in which Kuwait was supposed to be freed from the tyranny of Saddam Hussein. After the bombing and invasion, Kuwait wasn't freed, according to the speaker - the operation was to provide cheap oil for the rich, presumably in America. Adding to this, the speaker cites Vietnam and Nicaragua as fellow victims of the war machine, closing the poem with the claim that another excuse will be found tomorrow, for another war.
