Notes | This poem is part of the story of 'Dónall Dubh', an invented dark character whose life story is described in this collection. In this poem, Dónall gives voice to racist and Islamophobic ideas - including that all refugees are Muslim terrorists, and that they will come to Ireland, rape women and girls, and crucify white people. Dónall's tone when speaking about Muslims is apoplectic, telling his companion that if ISIS got the chance, they would behead him. There are references in the poem to Irish Austerity, Jesus, Fionn MacCumhaill, and several Irish place names. |
