Notes | Sarajevo in 1993 was the middle of a siege situation as a result of the break-up of Yugoslavia and the subsequent war. This poem reflects upon praying for peace in Sarajevo in church - is it worth it? Do prayers have a place, or are they just a way to make those who pray feel better? Are the prayers effective, or are those who pray for Sarajevo not impassioned enough to make God hear them? This is contrasted with David's anguished appeals to God in the Bible. |
