| Notes | This short poem appears to comment upon Ireland's place in the world as a result of its neutrality during World War II. The poem appears to have been inspired by the fiftieth anniversary of V.E. Day, in 1995. The speaker of the poem creates a sense of Ireland's isolation and loneliness in the world, as a result of the country's self-imposed ostracisation during World War II. |
