Notes | The speaker of this poem describes a radio broadcast, almost drowned in static, during which he hears an impassioned plea for help and assistance from an unknown source, who begs for food and sustenance, and to be saved from some unknown danger. The speaker of the poem tries to turn the channel back to the one in which the pleas can be heard, but fails. Could this poem be a commentary on the power of media to make human rights issues or humanitarian crises known to the rest of the world, or possibly how, despite our access to knowledge about these events, we fail to fully act upon them? |
