Paratext Text | Smaoineamh a rithe liom tar éis breahtnú ar phictiúr den eachtra uafáid a tharla sa Liobáin. |
Notes | Paratext of the poem is insightful: it states that the poem is in reference to a terrible event that happened in Lebanon. This could be in reference to the Sohmor massacre (in which IDF-backed South Lebanese forces killed civilians in the Shia Muslim village of Sohmor), or the Beirut US embassy annex bombing, carried out by Hezbollah. These events occurred as part of the Lebanese Civil War, which was sparked by an Israeli invasion in 1982. The speaker, reacting to these events, claims that we need a new 'God'. Judging by the events in Lebanon, perhaps humanity would be better off believing in the likes of Crom Cruach himself, a pagan god propitiated with human sacrifices. |
