Paratext Text | I Lughnasa 1902, nuair a bhí deire le Cogadh na mBórach a scríobhadh an dréacht so. |
Notes | This is a structured rhyming poem and was written at the close of the Second Anglo-Boer War, in 1902. The speaker of the poem laments how the Boer's bid for freedom has failed, but he is hopeful that they will succeed in the future. The speaker's own feeling on the matter are expressed clearly in the poem. He directly counsels the Boers to stay strong in the face of oppression, and that God is stronger than the Devil - implying that they will soon achieve their own self-determination. |
