Notes | Poem detailing regime change in Iraq after the Iraq War and the ousting of Saddam Hussein. Poem focuses on the killing of gay men by new Iraqi militias, sprung into life after the removal of Saddam. The speaker of the poem appears to bemoan the new 'complaints' from Iraq - that the British and American 'Army of Freedom' did all it could, but now people are complaining about gay people being executed - the final line of the poem 'give me a break!' highlights the sardonic tone of the speaker. |
