Paratext Text | (Ar bhá beagnach 700 duine is iad ag teitheadh ón Libia go dtí an Iodáil nuair a d'iompaigh an bád iascaigh ina rabhadar béal faoi.) |
Notes | The subtitle of this poem references the drowning of 700 migrants who departed Libya to travel by sea to Italy. This happened on 19 April 2015. The speaker of this poem expresses anger at those who view refugees as less than human - as profitable cargo that will make them money. Reference is also made to a well-know lament in Irish, 'Eanach Dhúin', which commemorates an accidental drowning at Annaghdown, Co. Galway, in 1828. The question of liability in the former case is contrasted to accidental drowning in the latter. |
