Notes The speaker of the poem prays to God in thankfulness for everything that she has been gifted, as she stands in a field, surrounded by crops. However, in the final verse of the poem, she acknowledges that she can't be content, with the knowledge of the war, suffering, and hunger in Rwanda and Darfur. This is likely a reference to the Rwandan Genocide and to the conflict in Darfur in Sudan. Both conflicts led to mass ethnic cleansing, displacement, and famine.
