Paratext Text Tallinn, an Eastóin Iúil 2010
Notes This poem strongly hints at some kind of sex-trafficking/enslavement situation taking place in Estonia. According to the Trafficking in Persons Report 2010 from the US Department of State, 'Estonia is a source country and, to a lesser extent, a destination country for women subjected to trafficking in persons, specifically forced prostitution, and for men and women in conditions of forced labor.' The speaker of the poem is a woman who appears to be in some kind of bondage situation. She mentions how she is forced to be a slave for the desires of those who come to her, and how their lovers are banished overseas. The poem ends hopefully, as the 'sisters of the forest' come along to inspire her to get up and keep moving. The poem ends with her statement of being no longer lonely, but free.
