| Notes | This poem references soldiers returning home from an unspecified war. The third-person speaker recounts the facts: three soldiers are returning from war and are welcomed into a home. The daughter of the house, however, understands that their 'hunger', i.e. 'sexual hunger' must be satisfied that night, and she brings a knife to bed with her. There is reference to gender-based violence and it is implied that the daughter kills two of the three soldiers. |
