Paratext Text ( I gcuimhne ar Alan Hennings a dhícheannaigh ISIS 2014)
Notes This poem is about Alan Hennings, beheaded by ISIL in 2014. He was a taxi-driver turned humanitarian who was captured and beheaded. 'Media' reference here is the fact that the beheading captured on camera and spread as ISIL propaganda - the infamous beheading videos. The speaker of the poem expresses his sadness at Henning's death, praising his humanitarianism and kindness and wishing that he could have been blind before witnessing his death on video - broadcast to the world as ISIL propaganda. According to the author's glossary, this poem is based on a poem by Aonghus Ó Dálaigh, a bardic poet who wrote a poem of the same name.
