Notes | This poem describes the killing of Blair Peach. Blair Peach was a New Zealand-born special needs teacher who was killed during a counter-protest in 1979, which was organized against a right-wing National Front meeting. Police, who had assembled to protect the right of assembly, charged the protestors and Peach was allegedly struck on the head. The poem deals with 'cover-up' of the murder of Peach: everyone else, except the policeman, accepts blame for his death. To this date, no-one has been convicted of his murder. |
