Notes | This poem describes the contagion of revolutionary ideas. The speaker of the poem links Martin Luther King, his assassination, and his anti-racist ideals to the Easter Rising, 1916, and the idealistic struggle for Irish Independence. The speaker notes how 1916 was based in the General Post Office, where much commerce is conducted today. The speaker compares this commercialisation to 'Mammon', a biblical entity representing wealth and greed. The contagious revolutionary ideas will endure, however. |
