| Notes | This is a poem in which the speaker of the poem appears to comment on activities of Boris Yeltsin, the controversial Russian politician, who served as first President of Russia from 1991-1999. The poem comments briefly on the massacre of the Kulaks (a comparatively well-off farming class of peasants) which occurred during Stalinist Collectivization in the 1930s, and their forced expulsion to Siberia if they failed to comply. The speaker of the poem describes a rather humorous hypothetical situation in which Yeltsin will visit them in Ireland and explain himself to everyone. |
