Notes | The speaker of the poem describes having two languages in his mind - Scottish Gaelic and English. The reference to Sarajevo, towards the end of the poem, is notable, and is probably in reference to the Bosnian war of the early 1990s. Despite his command of two languages, the speaker of the poem cannot use them to rinse the memory of Sarajevo from his mind. |
