| Paratext Text | Death of Alan Kurdi Photographed near Bodrum, in the Aegean 3-5 September 2015 |
| Notes | This poem, 'In the Marches', explores the area of Jasenovac, in which an infamous Ustaše concentration camp existed during World War II. This section, however, reflects on the death of Alan Kurdi, a Syrian child whose body was found on the beach as he was attempting, with his family, to come to Europe. The Syrian Civil war was raging at the time of the poem's composition, leading to a mass exodus of Syrians to Europe. |
