Notes | The speaker of this poem speaks of her experience in teaching English to immigrant or refugee women, who have suffered racist and Islamophobic attacks and harassment in Ireland, including removal of hijabs and verbal abuse. The poem traces aspects of the city of Dublin, through which the speaker of the poem walks on her way home from teaching English to these women, as she reflects on the passive racism of many in Ireland, and the violence of young teenage boys in particular. |
