Notes | The speaker of this poem describes the anxiety of crossing borders. This is probably a journey from UK - Belfast - Dublin, based on some of the poet's previous works, which describe her thankfulness at living in Ireland during the rise of Brexit-inspired racism in the UK. There is a hint of disturbance in the description of the Irish landscape as 'poison-green' and 'bruised-lip' blue, however. The speaker of the poem also notes that she keeps a close eye on her passport, in case the 'wind changes' - an implication of latent racism in Ireland, perhaps. |
