Notes The speaker of this poem describes a journey from Zimbabwe to Dublin, alongside people who are possibly seeking refuge or asylum in Ireland. The poem contains vivid descriptions of the Zimbabwean culture and landscape. There are subtle mentions of nervousness around travelling of some of the passengers, as well as entering Ireland as a Zimbabwean into the non-EU immigration area, and the latent poverty of Zimbabwe. Overall, there is a strong sense of displacement and unease in the poem.
