Notes This poem was included in *The Last Ditch* and published by the Cuala Press in 1940. It appears in the appendix to this collected poems. This poem appears also in *Plant and Phantom* which was published in 1941.The final lines of this poem describes the totem poles of the British Museum as bearing the faces of refugees, perhaps implicitly contrasting the conquest and exportation of cultural goods with the admittance of refugees into England.
