Notes The speaker of the poem recalls the Air India disaster: Air India Flight 182 was bombed on its way from Montréal to London, leading to the deaths of 329 people, in 1985. The plane was bombed by Babbar Khalsa, Canadian Sikh militants, and the disaster remains the largest mass killing in modern Canadian history, and was the biggest aviation disaster until 9/11. The speaker of the poem hears the story and is deeply affected by it, thinking of all those who have lost their lives as a result of this disaster, when just yesterday they were full of life and hope.
