Paratext Text Tsunami
Notes The speaker of this poem reflects on the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which struck many communities along the Indian ocean, and caused almost a quarter of a million deaths. There appears to be interesting comments here on the nature of humanitarianism - our bright promises to the destroyed beaches of the world. Human violence is also referenced in the final verse of the poem, in which the speaker describes how nature and people are predisposed to violence and destruction.
