Notes This poem describes a the September 2010 General Strike in Spain. Ten million workers participated in the strike, which was organised in reaction to austerity measures enforced by the Spanish Government. The speaker of the poem describes some of the scenes of the event: tourists staring, sex workers becoming lonely, bread lines at the church getting hungry, and crickets chirping.
